How is Share by Code useful?
One day at university, two classmates and I were getting ready to present our project. We had brought one laptop, with our presentation saved in OneDrive, and planned to connect it to the large screen in the room.
When we tried to connect the laptop, we found that the port we needed was damaged. We had not known about it before that day. We tried sharing the screen from an iPad, but the TV did not detect it. We did not have a USB drive either. So what could we do?
The presentation was online, so all we needed was a way to move its link from our laptop to the TV. Share by Code was not available yet, but I knew it could have made this easy. Instead, I opened my personal website, jawhersebai.com, and added the OneDrive link in a comment under one of my tutorials. Then I opened that page on the TV, copied the link, and opened the presentation.
Problem solved. But it made me think: there are many ways to send yourself a link or file, like email, WhatsApp, or Facebook. Still, signing in to a personal account on a shared or unfamiliar device may not feel comfortable. I wanted a simpler option.
A handy way to move things between your devices
That experience gave me the push to build Share by Code. It gives you a way to share a file or link between devices without signing in to your personal accounts on the receiving device.
For example, you can use it to move a photo or PDF from your phone to your computer, or to get a link onto a screen for a presentation. Instead of sending the file to yourself through a social account and signing in again on another device, you can share it with a code.
Sometimes the simplest solution is the one that saves you time and a little worry. Just visit Share by Code to share what you need and get back to what you were doing with fewer steps and less hassle.
